And there was light! This continuous daylight lighting kit comes with two head lamps, ten fluorescent bulbs, two soft boxes, two light stands
and a zippered carrying case. This is a continuous light setup meaning that it won’t be triggered by a flash. These lights are great for lighting a room, background, subject, and even for tabletop photography. Each head
lamp requires five fluorescent bulbs; The lamps have five switches on its back that will turn on and off the bulbs individually providing control over how much light it will produce. It will produce 2250 watts of light. The
lamps also have convenient handles for carrying or for when you need manual assistant with lighting. The light stands are adjustable and can be set to be seven feet tall; You will need sand bags or something similar to make
sure the lights do not fall over. The soft boxes need to be assembled, each one comes with four steel sticks, and two silk covers (one smaller that goes inside the box, and a bigger one that attaches with Velcro to the outside
border of the black box). There is no science to assemble the boxes, just logic. It is simple to figure out, just take a good look at the inside corner of the soft box. The sticks go on the inside corners of the soft box,
it slides into slots that are at the lamp. Then you Velcro the small translucent cover screen, and proceed to place the bigger translucent cover screen that attaches to the Velcro surrounding the light box’s exterior.
These lights work as expected. Yes, as stated the boxes take some assembly but nothing that should take more than a couple of minutes per box.
I guess that is the price you pay for the overall economy of this kit. The light produced by the lamps is daylight but with gels, and even other translucent fabrics it can easily be altered to whatever you desire or need.
The translucent covers that come with the kit will need to be steamed or iron out if you are bothered by creases of it being folded; I find this to be a decision that is completely about aesthetics as it does not changes the
light produced. I must mention that you do need to be careful when removing the translucent covers from the Velcro surrounding the box as it can break the stitching of the Velcro itself making it come lose. There are plenty
of easy fixes if that happens but still be aware that you cannot just pulled it without care as it will come apart; I know because it happened on the top center Velcro of one of the light boxes, again, easy fix that does not
jeopardize or changes anything on the performance of these lights. Other than that I have not had any other opportunities with this kit. I recommend sand bags or similar to keep the light stands a bit secure, especially if
there are other people in the setup area as the lights can tip forward but that should be part of every photographer’s security routine as it is something that can happen with any setup.
