Two years ago we were fortunate enough to visit Alaska, and that is when we were introduced to the wonders of an Ulu knife. We had never even
seen one before but after seeing in in action we were fans. We bought one and brought it back home with us, and since then it has been used none stop.
While we love our Ulu, we regretted not buying the matching cutting board when we had the chance.
The Hungry Eskimo’s Ulu Knife with Cutting Board is exactly what we wanted and expected. The Ulu knife is very sharp, solid, and sturdy; It
is made out of steel. The surface of the cutting board matches the shape of the knife’s blade which provides for better, and faster cuts. The cutting bowl board is made out of Rubberwood, and cleans easily by hand. It has
a small slit at the top of the board that is an Ulu holder, so essentially the chopping bowl board is also a display for the Ulu knife which will stand there without any damage. We always hand wash our Ulu knives with soapy
water, and pad dry. This set of knife and bowl board look beautiful, and are well made.
Using an Ulu might look intimidating for someone who has never used one before but it is not. It changed our kitchen dynamics. It is super easy
to use, even without its matching cutting (bowl) board, and does not place a lot of tension on the arms and hands when using it. Just rock the knife back and forward without having to lift it from the cutting board. It will
cut anything without problems. The Ulu is my friend when it is time to cut carrots because it makes it so easily, effortless and I don’t have pieces of carrot jumping all over the counter or floor. I have Fibromyalgia, and
it attacks my shoulders which means that something as simple as doing some cutting as part of the meal preparation process can be extremely painful but with the Ulu I don’t have to use my upper arms much and that means less
pain to deal with afterwards.
Altogether this set of Ulu knife and matching cutting board exceeded our expectations because of the beauty of its craftsmanship, we actually
feel bad using the cutting board as it looks so perfect, and its quality overall. Every kitchen deserves the convenience of having an Ulu, we would definitely recommend it.
Tip: Remember to oil or wax the cutting board before using it for the first time, and periodically after that, it will make it last longer.
