I have thick natural black hair, and it has always been a challenge for it to hold any type of color. I have resolved into
using other mediums to be able to “fun it up” which is the reason why I decided to try this chalk coloring technique. If you have black hair it will be a challenge to make it very visible and no matter how you do it, it
won’t look like those bright fun colors from lighter hair colors. The lighter your hair the better the results. The process is very messy, and that is why it includes the plastic protective gear. Even with thar protection,
be aware there will be chalk everywhere around you while you are doing the process. I will try it again but I will wait until the weather allows me to do it outside the house.
The colors of the chalk are beautiful, it has 12 different shades that are gradients so if you want to get that mermaid effect
of 2 or more colors, you won’t need extra chalk. The chalk stick itself will last for a while depending on how much you want to change your hair. I only did one string and that was about 25% of one stick. They way that works
a bit for me was wetting the chalk stick and rubbing it on my hair making sure to only do the rubbing downwards. After I finished with the chalk, I applied a bit of hairspray, and then used the straightening iron for its heat
to seal in the color, and added a bit more spray at the end. It lasted on my hair for about 12 hours, and it did got on my shirt, not much but it did. It comes with easy to follow instructions but I advise some research if
you have dark hair. I can’t forget to mention that it also comes with a cute little handwritten note which gives it a personal touch that I appreciate.
Overall, if you have light hair go ahead and have fun with this product. If you have dark hair be prepare to do a bit of extra work, and have realistic expectations of the outcome because it will not look as the model’s hair for obvious reasons. I have tried it once, and even after the challenge of my black hair, it was fun to see the reaction of others when they noticed my “teal” color piece of hair. I want to try again, but like I mentioned I want it to be outside because there was chalk everywhere in the bathroom during my first try. Oh, and be aware that the product ships from overseas so do not expect it to be at your doorstep right away.
